‘Pen World’ Article Names Marjorie as Part of a ‘Triple Threat’

I'm honored that the October 2017 issue of “Pen World” magazine features me and Johanna Basford as coloring book artists who find Staedtler products as essential tools in our work.

I love color and texture and layering detail in my artwork. Since reviewing Staedtler pens last year, I’ve used them exclusively for a variety of techniques because they're so versatile. You can read about how I use triplus fineliners and pigment liners in my artwork, and how Johanna depends on Staedtler products in the story, ‘Triple Threat.’

Dover Spring Catalog Features Marjorie Sarnat

With the release of Creative Kittens this spring, colorists have been delighted with such a “purr-fect” followup to Creative Cats. It “presents another treat for cat lovers and coloring enthusiasts, with more feline portraits and unique patterns of hearts, flowers, paisleys, and other motifs.” The spring catalog page that features these two books mentions that over 1.8 million Marjorie Sarnat Creative Haven books have been sold worldwide. Marjorie says, “I’m truly thankful and heartwarmed by the books’ reception. With 4 more books coming out in the next year, I am creating more illustrations that I hope will continue to delight colorists everywhere.”

New York Times Bestselling Adult Coloring
Book Author Signs Two-book Deal

Artist Marjorie Sarnat and Skyhorse Publishing sign an agreement to illustrate two of her books for the adult coloring book market.

Aladdin's Lamp, from Pampered Pets

LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) MARCH 21, 2016

Marjorie Sarnat and Skyhorse Publishing are preparing to publish two of her illustrated books in the hot adult coloring book market. Sarnat, one of the leading illustrators in that genre, is the author of the two giant bestsellers Creative Cats, and Owls, together which have over 1 million copies in print and have been translated into 18 languages. These sales have catapulted Sarnat into the company of rarified authors having two books on the Publishers Weekly Bestseller List at the same time, consistently, since their release. The new titles, Pampered Pets and Fanciful Fashions, will be published in April 2016 by Racehorse Publishing, an imprint of Skyhorse Publishing, Inc.

"I love art, and I love what I do," said Marjorie Sarnat. “My illustrated books pre-date the current trend and reflect subjects that I am passionate about, such as animals, pets, and fashion." She added, "I measure my success by the delight of my audience, and I’m excited to be working with Skyhorse on new projects that will extend my reach to more people who enjoy coloring."

Jason Schneider, Editorial Director at Racehorse Publishing said, “We are delighted to be working with Marjorie on these upcoming projects. Skyhorse has sold over 3 million coloring books in the past year and these new projects will continue to grow our brand with the coloring book audience. With Marjorie’s signature style, she’ll fit in perfectly with our series of New York Times Bestselling Artists’ series that also features other recognized names. We look forward to bringing these projects to market and getting Marjorie’s art into new markets.”

Sarnat’s fanciful coloring book style evolved from her love of patterns, which she developed through an earlier career as a textile designer. Also influencing her style is her lifelong passion for collecting vintage illustrated books. Her love for all things nostalgic finds its way into her coloring book imagery.

"…I definitely think coloring can be a “gateway” art form. It introduces you to art materials, color harmonies, and bolsters confidence. It also familiarizes you with drawing styles. I have friends who began with coloring books and are now painting beautiful original works."
